Hi Everyone,
We hope you’re settling into the colder (windier, rainier) weather, shorter days, brightly colored leaves, and brisk air of fall. I always thought the shift from hot summer days to cold fall ones would be harsh for Flying Squads, who spend the majority of their time outdoors, but I’m actually quite enjoying what the new season has brought for our groups.
The 7-12-year-old Wednesday crowd has been having a great time connecting as a group, getting to know each other, and spending lots of time in various parks throughout northeast Portland. This group walks the neighborhoods but has been staying close to “home base” as they’re still staying off of public transit. I’m hearing stories of ultimate tag, learning to play guitar, and foam bat fights in the park.
The Monday teen group is into exploring, walking a lot, and has just started taking public transit again which wildly increases our options for where to go. Last week we visited Lloyd Center (which we hear is shutting down) to do some ice skating and, as always, just hang out with one another. Every week I’m more and more grateful and touched (but not at all surprised) as the group is increasingly supportive, challenging, caring, and hilarious with one another.
There are a couple spots left in the Wednesday group, and a few in the Monday group as well. Come join us for a day to see if it’s a fit for you!
I (Bria) recently released a video talking about what Flying Squads are and sharing my experience with them. Check it out if you’re interested.
